Mandate

Research on second language acquisition highlights the importance of establishing contact with native (or fluent) speakers of the target language in order to sustain motivation and linguistic development. While trips and time spent abroad are helpful, these options are not accessible to all learners. In the current context, interactions facilitated by virtual tools and platforms come as a potential path to explore, one that could hypothetically lead to a transformation of pedagogical practices in second language teaching. This research group on tandem language learning aims to promote this approach as well as explore different challenges in the acquisition of a second or foreign language.
